Chapter 4 – Stalker....Stalker....Stalker.....

A few minutes after you are out of sight, the man in the café makes his way over to the art gallery. He enters and asks the staff who it was that just left here. A woman working just in the doorway tells him that the girl was the newest gallery employee. The man thanks her for the information and disappears.

As soon as he gets to his apartment, he barges through the door (nearly running into the woman that works for him), quickly jumps into a comfortable, high-back desk chair in front of his computer, and immediately begins searching for you.

“What the hell’s got you in such a mood?” asks the long, dark-haired woman as she turns folding her arms; unsure if his mood is good or bad. 

“Not now, Namie. I’ve got some work to do.~” says the man in a sing-song tone as his head is already buried into his computer; so close that the screen casts a white light across his face.

After four hours of continuous research, the man lies back in his chair with a thud and sighs. “Even with all my skills and resources....I can’t find anything on this girl...” he quietly mutters to himself as he reflects and contemplates his next move.

“You mean to tell me that the greatest information broker in all of Ikebukuro can’t even find anything on a simple girl?” Namie spoke curtly as she puts an armful of books away.

The man cuts his eyes at her and turns back to his computer as he gently replies, “Ho, ho…Very funny. Ha, ha it is to laugh...”*

“Besides,” he continues, “it’s not like I can’t find anything. She appeared at the hospital one night, but there is no information on her prior to that. And typically...even in similar situations I can find everything that I want…It seems that someone is trying to hide her tracks...And they have done a rather good job of it; I’m impressed. I love it when my little humans can finally give me a challenge.~”

“Tsh. Whatever.” Naime mutters as she turns to complete another task. “The only love that matters is my love for Seiji...”

As the man stretches in his chair, he says in a calm, happy tone, “Weeeeeell, it looks like I’ll just have to go about this the old fashioned way.~”

“You mean stalk her?”

“Now Namie, you know me better than that.~ I’ll just speak with her myself.” His voice becomes lower and more cunning as he says with a sickening smile, “On Wednesday......the fun begins.”

Even though you’ve had work for only two days, you already have a bit of a routine. You get up happily Wednesday morning and prep for work. Today is a good day.

As you walk toward the gallery, you see a dark-haired man sitting on a bench in front of the entrance. Hmm. I wonder who that could be? Wow...He’s pretty good-looking too. You’re about to go through the door when the man stops you.

“Excuse me!”

You turn around as he gets up from the bench and walks toward you. “Um, yes?”

“Hello there.~” he begins. “My name is Izaya Orihara, it’s a pleasure to meet you. And, this might sound like an odd question, but are you new to this area?”

You are shocked for a second not knowing what to think. “Wow. Is it really that obvious? Haha Yeah, I just moved here a few days ago. My name’s (f/n) (l/n); it’s nice to meet you too.”

“Haha. I thought so. I know most of the people here, but couldn’t recall seeing you around before; and I’m sure I would have remembered a pretty face like yours.”

You couldn’t help but blush, and Izaya catches it.

“I managed to make you blush? That’s quite the compliment.~” Now your face turns deeply red and you turn your head away slightly. Izaya then decides to stop teasing. “Hmmm... How about this: Since you’re new here and I know the city well, how about I give you a tour after work?”

You turn back to look at him and as your eyes hit Izaya’s, something deep inside you begins to scream that you hate him. This can’t be right. I just met him and he seems fine. He’s just a little flirtatious is all, you tell yourself as you try to shrug the feeling.

“Sure! That’d be great! Thank you.” You bow slightly as you remember you still have to go to work. “Oh! I’ve got to go. I would feel stupid if I missed work by just standing outside the door. Hahaha. I’ll meet you right here at noon?”

“See you at noon then.~” he replies calmly with a grin.

Twelve o’clock rolls around, you step out the gallery door, and there he is; as promised. “Hey there. Sorry I’m a few minutes late; I hope you haven’t been waiting long.”

Izaya gets up from the bench and approaches you. “Heheh. It’s fine,” he leans in closer to you, narrowing his eyes, “I’d even wait for eternity for you.~”

You blush again. With a satisfied smile, Izaya quickly stiffens himself upright and like a whole other person he says cheerfully, “Ready to go?”

The two of you casually walk together as Izaya leads you through the streets of Ikebukuro. You pass small stores, numerous cafés, and Izaya seems to enjoy describing each one to you. As you walk beside him, you notice that you occasionally gaze at Izaya as he speaks; matter of fact, he does the same to you. Despite your initial feeling, you can’t help but feel comfortable around him now. The two of you pass through the park as you head toward the next street, a few members from the Yellow Scarves catches Izaya’s eye.

“Oh, yes. There is one thing I need to mention to you, (f/n).” You turn your attention to him. Izaya’s tone and demeanor changes as he looks forward, “You need to be wary of the trash here in the city… There are a couple of gangs that reside here; namely the Dollars and Yellow Scarves....The Dollars don’t really do much; you might even say they’re not really a gang at all.... But you need to watch the Yellow Scarves and stay away from them. They’ll be easy to spot so you should be ok. Just be sure not to wander alone...”

“Uh...alright.” is all you can manage to say, surprised at the sincerity of concern in his voice.

You then reach the sidewalk along a busy street; Izaya stops and stands in front of you. “Hey, it’s alright. I don’t want to scare you or anything. As long as I’m around you’ll be fine.~”

“Heh. Thanks Izaya.”

“Now, we’ve been out for a while now. How about we get an early dinner; it’ll be my tre-“

*CRASH*

“Eh?” You stand wide-eyed on the sidewalk. Wasn’t Izaya just here in front of me????

You look on the ground to your right and find Izaya under a street post 10 feet from where you’re standing. Suddenly a voice to your left yells out capturing your full attention.

“IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-ZAAAA-YAAAAAAAAAA.” A man far down the street dressed as a...bartender?...begins to angrily stride toward Izaya. “WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU, YOU DAMN FLEA!?!?”

You quickly look back over to Izaya as he is getting up, rubbing his head. “So it seems like Shizu-chan has found me already huh?....Damn...”

Izaya turns and begins to skip away down the street. As he does so, he turns back toward you, “Sorry, (f/n), I need to split! We’ll have to finish this another day!~” He then takes off down the road.

The bartender had made his way in front of you at this point. “COME BACK HERE SO I CAN KILL YOU!!!” He then breaks into a sprint to follow Izaya.

Ummmmm.....What just happened?

You simply stand on the sidewalk dumbfounded and confused.
